NCID Code

Numeric Concept Identifier (NCID) code is a number used to identify and encode unique concepts in the 3M Healthcare Data Dictionary (HDD).

Concept Status

This field designates a concept as being Active (1024), Inactive (1025), or Obsolete (1502).

Superceded By

When two concepts are determined to be equivalent, the redundancy is resolved by inactivating one concept and superceding it with the other. The NCID code of the active concept is placed in the Superceded By field of the inactive concept. This mechanism allows data previously stored against an NCID code that is currently inactive to be successfully interpreted and is compliant with the principle of concept permanence.
